SARAH ELISE ABRAMSON
DEJA VU IN GENERAL
December 3 - 18
A Survey Exhibition Featuring 10 Years of Polaroid Photography
Saturday, December 3, 7-11 PM
Coagula Curatorial is pleased to announce its upcoming exhibition Deja Vu In General, a solo retrospective of Los Angeles-based photographer Sarah Elise Abramson’s Polaroid work. From more than a thousand Polaroid photos taken over her ten year long career, over 400 unique Polaroid images will be on display. A selection of works from countless hours spent behind the lens,
Deja Vu in General lifts the veil between reality and surrealism to give us an insight to the progression of Abramson’s work over the last decade.
Sarah Elise Abramson met Mat Gleason nearly a decade ago when she walked into his gallery with a box of Polaroids and asked for a show. It was in that moment that a friendship was born, and Gleason put her in a show entitled “8 Under 28,” Abramson’s first gallery show. Since then she has rapidly gained notoriety in the contemporary photography world with her work published in numerous publications, including the Huffington Post, Monster Children, and Coachella Magazine. She has exhibited locally and internationally with SOMArts, the Louvre, The Arsenal of Venice in Italy, and in Los Angeles with Gregorio Escalante Gallery,
Mat Gleason’s gallery neighbor on Chung King Road. Abramson also furthered her photographic scope working under her mentor, David LaChapelle. Deja Vu in General is the culmination of a lifetime of creativity.
The works on view explore the realm of dreams that often times provoke a sensation of reality and vice versa. By exploring the
mystifying and enigmatic places tucked away in various states of consciousness, the viewer is hard pressed not to find or leave a piece of themselves in this work.
Deja Vu in General will be on view at Coagula Curatorial from December 3 - December 30, 2016 with an
opening reception Saturday, December 3 from 7-10pm.
