LEIGH SALGADO
“NEW WORK”
EYES (DETAIL)
Coagula Curatorial presents NEW WORK by Leigh Salgado, the Los Angeles pioneer of free-form cut paper fine art picture-making. This exhibit opens October 27 and runs thru November 24 at Coagula Curatorial Art Gallery in historic Chinatown, Downtown LA.
Ms Salgado is known for blending themes of feminine sexuality and couture with a surreal presentation of pictorial space that only thickens her conceptual plot. The brilliance of her work is in layered subject matter that addresses thematic notions in poetic visuals, and delivering this to her audience in a completely unique signature style that she continues to experiment with and investigate, influencing a generation behind her with new possibilities and techniques.
By abandoning the cliches of craft, pattern and decoration Salgado has arrived at a raw sensuality in this once cool and precise medium. Her masterful painting and drawing skills resound as they intertwine with the thousands of cuts in the paper surface of her ambitious, large-scale artworks. The results pulsate with a thematic poetry of abstracted and idealized body imagery.
These concurrent exhibitions run October 27 thru November 24. The gallery is open Wednesday thru Saturday, Noon – 5 PM
